Yaupon Inn Logo + Brand Design
The Yaupon Inn is born! Betsy Gwin of Buxton, NC completely renovated her cedar shake motel that sits only 200 yards from the beach. Her parents owned this same motel when she was a child, formerly Hodges Motel, and Betsy wanted to evolve and give her brand a look to match the redesign of the motel. Right in front of the motel is a beautiful yaupon tree, a plant indigenous to the area. Native Americans who lived on Hatteras Island used these trees to make tea for ceremonies, medicine, + social drinking. Betsy named her motel the Yaupon Inn and we knew we wanted to incorporate the yaupon plant into the design. Instead of hand lettering the text for the logo, we decided on a watercolor yaupon element. We drew and watercolored the yaupon stem in the logo for a completely custom element. It also resembles a "y" ;) You can find the Yaupon Inn on Airbnb (each room rents separately), can check out their Facebook here (where she used the cute circle submark!) and her blog here.
